The 2024 NFL draft is just over a month away, and North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is already receiving lofty comparisons.

ESPN’s Matt Miller explained that despite Maye’s lack of experience, he still has traits that led scouts to compare him to two of the best signal-callers in the league.

“Considering he had only 26 starts in college, we could see Maye sit early in his career — but NFL scouts have already compared his ability to [Justin] Herbert and Josh Allen,” Miller stated.

Maye is expected to be one of the top three quarterbacks selected in this year’s draft. B/R’s NFL Scouting Department ranked him as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the latest big board and predicted he would be selected with the No. 2 pick by the Washington Commanders in the latest mock draft.

Miller detailed attributes Maye has that have NFL scouts excited about his potential at the next level.

“Maye’s powerful right arm allows him to hit every area of the field, and high-level traits are obvious on tape. He has great arm strength and mobility to create on the go, and he is poised and aggressive as a passer and runner,” Miller stated. “Maye is also excellent under pressure and has proved he can carry a roster lacking in elite talent at core positions. He threw for 3,608 yards, 24 TDs and nine interceptions last season.”

It remains to be seen how things will shake out when the draft commences on April 25, but it’s clear that Maye has a bright future in the NFL.
